About this deal

I’ll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boots nearby, because there is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix. Since No Matter the Wreckage includes poetry from a span of ten years of my life, it was inevitable that at some point my family would be included, since there were plenty of times in that decade when I was navigating family dynamics and history. For some I imagine reading the poetry will not compare to watching her present, but I think that that is a limitation of the medium, more than a complaint about the book. I have been following Sarah Kay since my first year in college (2012) when I first watched her in Ted. There are poems about so many different subjects here all carefully constructed and eloquently written.

I believe that this latter point is a reason that spoken-word poetry has become popular amongst many people are who are not real poetry fans. Although Kay works primarily in spoken word poetry, she has had written poems published in magazines such as Foundling Review, DamselFly Press, and decomP literary magazine. There are some poems that I felt too intimate for me to be reading, like I was invading her privacy, but that's how Sarah Kay is. One aspect that really took my breath away was Kay’s ability to render ideas of her own into intricate details with the significance still intact. No Matter The Wreckage is a collection of poetry with the themes of love as well as random things out of the blue, including travel, cities and our surroundings. After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked, and hopeful. But I wrote the poem after a pattern had developed in my life that resulted in me having “near-misses” with great tragedies. I've also recommended the book to my other friends that are into poetry, and even some that haven't read poetry before. Common experiences which we sometimes fail to take notice of just because we are clouded by the white noise around us. I highly recommend this one, even if you are not fan of poetry, you will surely love this one in a heartbeat!

They felt deep, touching, clever, real, conveyed oceans of feeling and resonated with some of my own experiences. It will stick to your feelings and invigorate your inner cries a little bit (or more than a little bit), but most importantly it is an additional stunning perspective to view the world in. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. If you are planning to read more poetry this reading year, I can tell you one thing for sure, Sarah Kay will not disappoint. Kay holds a Masters Degree in The Art of Teaching from Brown University and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Grinnell College. No Matter the Wreckage invites readers to revel in both new and beloved works, showcasing Kay's remarkable ability to celebrate the essence of family, love, travel, history, and even peculiar romances between inanimate objects ("Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire") with eloquence and charm.

On March 3, 2011, she performed at the TED conference in Long Beach, California as part of a series entitled "Beauty, Imagination, Enchantment. No Matter the Wreckage' is the kind of book that keeps getting better and better as you read through.

NEW YORK, United States — After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked and hopeful, which is aptly titled No Matter the Wreckage.
