About this deal

Home to William Golding, Sylvia Plath, Kazuo Ishiguro, Sally Rooney, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Max Porter, Ingrid Persaud, Anna Burns and Rachel Cusk, among many others, Faber is proud to publish some of the greatest novelists from the early twentieth century to today.

When Coxon talks about things that touch him, whether it be guitar pedals, painting, his road to sobriety, or motor bikes, his passion makes itself known in his writing. It is a surprise – or possibly no surprise at all – that Coxon only reports music being any fun more than 200 pages in, when he tours the short, sharp songs of his fifth solo album with a band of friends in small venues. Faber Members get access to live and online author events and receive regular e-newsletters with book previews, promotional offers, articles and quizzes. The book does skim over his personal relationships a bit, but they're personal for a reason, and there are other people to think about.I think this one lands above Will Sergeant's (first) volume and below Jeff Tweedy and Johnny Marr's for me. However, if I was being brutally honest with myself, I would have recognised that my reality was more like the quiet bloke in glasses who was making strange noises from the guitar.

Take Coxon’s solo works as an example, his brief explanations and the influences of the time, from folk music to Sylvia Plath and his back-and-forth with alcoholism, are pasted throughout.I think the work is at its strongest when Coxon finds himself focusing in on one of his interests, suddenly talking about his artistic influences (a world I admittedly know little about) or his musical ones (a world that I know considerably more about) and his philosophies regarding expression in the two fields. In the daily Star, for instance, Linda Dugg wrote some fake news about me having an affair with Emma Anderson from Lush. Otherwise it is 'Welcome to my twisted mind', which is not particularly twisted, and looks ridiculous when performed by an adult. Jo, ja, jag vet saker som jag inte viste förut, men dessa sakerna skapar inte en större bild på han eller han omgivning.
