About this deal

Having been a Lisa Jewell fan for over ten years I was really excited to receive this sequel to her first novel Ralph's Party.

This is a sequel to a book I haven't yet read, and I suspect I wouldn't like as much, because After the Party isn't about finding love but keeping it. There are some sensitive issues that I think are dealt with incredibly well although I'm reluctant to be specific as I don't want any spoilers in my review. From the New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes an irresistible novel about the power of starting over. I can also recommend Vince and Joy, 31 Dream Street, and of course, Ralph's Party which I can't wait to read again with fresh eyes. Lisa is a New York Times and Sunday Times number one bestselling author who has been published worldwide in over thirty languages. for a couple plagued by so many problems, marriage seemed like a quick, if not inevitable, surface fix. But you do get the sense from some of the subtext that they're on the right track, which I suppose is more realistic--a positive trend versus some big epiphany of undoing every misunderstanding ever.

I know my reaction probably seems a little naive but I assure you I am a very realistic and logical person.

It’s not even really necessary to read Ralph’s Party beforehand as everything is explained very well. Jem begins to feel quietly disgruntled with everything that Ralph does and Ralph is feeling more and more like he's not even part of his own family. It's been eleven years since Ralph and Jem finally became an item at the end of Lisa Jewell's first novel Ralph's Party. It seems that her writing has evolved so much since Ralph’s Party and The Truth About Melody Browne seemed so more mature than her earlier novels so when I heart Lisa was writing a sequel to Ralph’s Party – her debut!

It was well written as are all of Lisa Jewels books but I just found it a little bit boring compared to some of her other books. So, I think she's a better thinker than is expected for the genre, which I do like, and why I've oddly read more of her books than I probably should have. She throws herself into her work and rarely comes up for air, not even to plan her upcoming wedding. It's isn't necessary to read the first book Ralph's Party but for those that have I think this is a wonderful way to look at the progression of Ralph and Jem's life.she asks, picking Scarlett up and heading for the big kitchen at the back of the house, where she knows her sister and brother-in-law will be.
