About this deal

Erik “Great Velcro strap addition, the upper sole construction made a huge difference on the durability of the shoe. The interior of the heel collar/counter is covered in a non slip cloth material, where your heel slides in easily, yet like fish scales or shark skin, slides easily one way, but not the other to reduce heel slippage. What I mean by that is they are designed for thick mud, wet trails, snowy, icy conditions and technical rocky ground; so the construction of the shoes is just as hard as the terrain they are designed to conquer.

I have found myself reaching for the King MT 2 most often when I’m planning on heading into rugged, mountainous terrain. Even on road, the shoe was surprisingly well-mannered and I was only distantly aware of the prominent lugs. GAITERTRAP: Innovative velcro tab allows easy attachment of gaiters without having to fix them under the sole. But on trails when you get your feet properly soaked the rapid drainage is nothing short of fantastic.

What we've noticed, especially on icier roads with a little snow overtop, is it grabs without the shoe slipping back. Altra made some minor tweaks to the shoe’s upper, like shortening the midfoot strap, that made the King 1. If these shoes hold up well for the rest of my stay in Tucson, I’ll probably pick up another pair before I head back to Norway, where I can give them the mud test. Testers felt that the shoe would be fine for anything upwards of 20 miles, but beyond that distance, they would likely be uncomfortable.

Many other reviewers have remarked that they do help drain water following full foot immersion, but that they also introduce water into the shoe when stepping in peddles or even walking on grass with dew. Do you have a particular question concerning the design, use, durability or other about a tested product? Thirdly, if you’re in shoe-sucking mud, the Torrent is going to slide right off and disappear whereas the King will stay glued to your foot. Emir “At first, I felt a little clumsy and klompy, but I realized that I needed to put more mountain into it.

Altra isn't making these any more, and unfortunately for those of us with wide feet, the company is shifting from a default 4E to a default 2E--which for me makes their newer models problematic. The aggressive lugs enhance the look of the shoe and confirm its intent/design to be used on rough, loose, mountainous terrain. This is something I have mostly just lived with, trying to keep it under control by more or less permanently wearing Compeed on my ring toes. After about 10 miles i noticed the tongue on the right shoe started drifting to the outside of my foot.

Whilst I don't agree with some reviews that say it looks silly (honestly I think it's kind of funky looking), I also don't quite see the point of it. They left immediately, marching through the night of the 6th and morning of the 7th, even though the rain never stopped. Likewise, the Velcro strap present in the previous model is maintained in this latest update but its position varies. If you do not come with such a minimalist shoe, you will need to increase the duration of training gradually and their intensity to accustom the dynamics of the foot and its components. Testers were torn between the need for the strap, but overall it didn’t hurt performance and didn’t add much weight to an already light shoe.
