About this deal

It is just a recipe, a suggestion for something you might like to make for others, but it is what I do. I am not sure why this happened: I used homemade dulce de leche, which perhaps was thicker than the bought sort, or perhaps I left the chocolate melting for too long - or not long enough? from the first jam tart Nigel made with his mum standing on a chair trying to reach the Aga, through to what he is cooking now. This is a very comprehensive cookery book that covers everything that you need to know about food preparation along with lots of mouth watering recipes. The section A Slice of Tart is a testament to Nigel's sweet tooth, with recipes like the Blackcurrant Macaroon Tart.

Nigel has had an interesting and at times challenging life and this shows in his writing I recommend his books to cooks and even those who would like a good culinary based read. Shallow, fudge-like and spiked with sherry-soaked golden sultanas and shards of chocolate, its surface gritty with caster sugar scented with rosemary. I have only scratched the surface with this book at the moment, but suffice to say it is big, comprehensive and so far seems to be written by people who know what they are talking about! So, it should come as no surprise that the book’s front cover features an uplifting detail from a Howard Hodgkin painting.This book is exactly what I was looking for - a comprehensive manual on cooking, with loads of information and pictorial steps on techniques and the reasoning behind them. I more often than not don't really cook from cookery books but I have been so excited by a large number of the recipes in this one that I find I am doing just that!
